An average fireplace takes about 75 pounds of Fireglass, but there are calculators to help you estimate how much will work for your particular situation. Placing a 2-3” thick layer is generally  recommended to get the best flame. Most people choose Fire Rock or Filler Fireglass to fill the majority of the space, since it’s cheaper than Accent Fireglass and the top layer is the only visible layer.  The only difference is that Accent Fireglass is more vivid in color but it is a bit more expensive.   If you’re going to be changing out your Fireglass regularly for parties or holidays it might be easier to use all Accent Fireglass so you won’t have to pick through it to get it out in order to replace it.
When it comes to Fireglass, installation is a cinch! Simply remove the old gas logs and clean out your fireplace using a dry cloth to remove any dust. Check your burner to ensure it is working properly or purchase a new one and you’re ready to fill. Pour the Filler Fireglass into the bottom of the fireplace and then spread the Accent Fireglass over top for a finished, affluent appearance.
